Life at Mount Christie

"Beautiful horses, breathtaking views and family fun."

About Us

Mount Christie Gypsy Horses is located in the heart of Michigan’s “horse country” just inside Southern Metamora Township in Oxford, Michigan. Nestled around the site of a former ski resort, on one of the highest points of land in Southeastern Michigan, Mount Christie offers some spectacular views of not only breathtaking scenery but beautiful horses.  It is our hope to preserve the natural attributes the land has given us just as we strive to protect the integrity of the breed we are raising.

I am Mary Miller and between my family and I, we are owned by twelve Gypsy Horses.  Being a "horse lover" my entire life, I first stumbled across a photo of a Gypsy Horse back in 2002.  Thinking that I had found the horse of my dreams, I did some research on what this beautiful horse was and where it came from.  While there was limited information on Gypsy Horses available at the time, I did find the web site of Black Forest Shires and Gypsy Horses.  At the time, their site was quite primitive and a whole lot different than it is today.  Nonetheless, I found enough information to know that this was the breed of horse I wanted to add to my herd and most importantly, they had THE horse I wanted to add to my herd advertised on their site!  She was a mare named Ruby.   By the time I convinced my dear husband, Brian, that I just couldn't live without her....she was sold.  Upset, but still determined to find my dream horse, I continued to look but compared every photo I saw to "my Ruby."  I talked to a few breeders here in the states and a few in England and yet I couldn't find a horse who, in my eyes,  compared to Ruby.  Though I had not met her in person, she stole my heart.

Just as I had stumbled upon that very first photo of a Gypsy Horse, in February of 2004, I came across an ad for a Gypsy mare named Ruby.  While the ad didn't include a photo, I inquired to see if it just might happen to be that "my Ruby" was for sale again.  Due to unfortunate circumstances, the person who imported Ruby couldn't keep her any more and sadly made her available again, to just the right home.  "My Ruby" came home one week after I discovered her ad and two years after seeing her first photo.  She is still with me today and is the Queen of our little castle!

Because of the way this wonderful breed has etched a special place in my heart, my herd has been reduced to include only Gypsy Horses.  This is with the exception of our beloved mini donkey named Zesty, or Uncle Z as he is known during weaning season.  Each and every horse in our herd has provided me and my family with many hours of love, entertainment, enjoyment and comfort.  From building confidence in my young children to comforting me when one of our babies leaves the farm to make his or her way across the country to their new home.  They are always there to lend an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on or a mane to cry in.  Until you've experienced the joys of having one of these wonderful horses in your family, you will never know what an impact they make on the lives of their humans.
